Pop a wheelie

Cleaning the rusty wheels wasn't very difficult once they were disassembled. There was a LOT of surface rust, so I took out all the spokes, cleaned them individually with steel wool, and sprayed them black. They will look nice contrasting against he chrome rims.

The rims were also cleaned with a combination of degreasing spray, steel wool, and finished off with chrome polish before lacing with the freshly painted spokes. New DURO whitewall tires were purchased online from a bike shop in California called Junky Rusty Bikes. They were $10 a piece (tire size: 26" x 1 3/8"). Shipping to Ontario was reasonable, although still more than the cost of the tires (~$25).

They look great installed on the rebuilt rims!

  1. You should've finished this blog, especially after you've mentioned that the bike was, in fact, finished and rebuilt completely.
There's a certain audience for blogs on rebuilding stuff and we like to follow the stories to the end. Posting bits and never closing the case is like showing really cool movie trailers without ever releasing the movie. Pity

    1. You know what, you're absolutely right. Although it is a lame excuse, life got in the way, and I never bothered to set aside enough time to complete the blog - but always regretted not posting the final product. Your post was the motivation I needed to complete the blog - so thank you! I hope you enjoy the finished product, and apologies for my exceptionally poor blogging etiquette.
